Summary

A joyful, sun-drenched tribute to the anticipation and adventures of the warmest season of the year。

When the days stretch out like a slow yawn, and the cheerful faces of Johnny-jump-ups jump up 。 。 。 then it's time to get ready for summer! From flip-flops and hide-and-seek to fireworks and ice-cream trucks, from lemonade stands and late bedtimes to swimming in the lake and toasting marshmallows, there's something for everyone in this bright and buoyant celebration of the sunny season。 Tom Brenner's lovely, lyrical ode to summers spent outdoors will strike a chord with anyone who's ever counted down the days until school gets out, and Jaime Kim's jubilant, nostalgia-soaked illustrations leave little doubt that summer is indeed a time unlike any other。

This book was such a cute book! I love summer so I thought it would be a great idea to read a few books about summer。 This book talks all about things that happen in the summer。 The pictures are very detailed and do a great job of telling the story。 If you love summer like me, this would be a great book for you! I definitely recommend it!

Really enjoyed this picture book that celebrates summer。 Perfect book to share at the end of the school year。

This lyrical picture book is certainly a love letter to summer but I didn’t really care for the “when-then” structure。

This fun story is about when summer comes and the many things there are to do that children love。 Great illustrations。

Beautiful illustrations! A simple story of fun times in the summer! I like how the author included the 4th of July in addition to swimming, camping and ice cream。 A cute book! Thank you for including diverse characters!

This book entails all things summer, from the parades to the ice cream to the days at the lake。 It invokes memories for the older ones and thoughts of excitement to come in the younger ones。 Definitely shows why we love summer。

And Then Comes Summer is a small picture book that talks about a lot of the fun things to do during the summer。 It starts off by talking about the hustle of finishing your last tests and getting out of school for the summer。 The author lists a lot of really fun activities kids participate in during the summer。 From lemonade stands to ice cream trucks and fireworks, the children are always having fun outside。 After it talks about the fourth of July, the book gets into the hottest dog days of the And Then Comes Summer is a small picture book that talks about a lot of the fun things to do during the summer。 It starts off by talking about the hustle of finishing your last tests and getting out of school for the summer。 The author lists a lot of really fun activities kids participate in during the summer。 From lemonade stands to ice cream trucks and fireworks, the children are always having fun outside。 After it talks about the fourth of July, the book gets into the hottest dog days of the summer。 While the children are sweating like crazy, the author suggests the solution of going to the lake with family。 The family has a great time and ends the book with a camping trip。I enjoyed this book, because the illustrations were so detailed and colorful。 The bright color choices really emphasized the summer sunshine vibes。 I also really enjoyed the fact that every activity in the book is an outside activity。 There is no mention of video games or iPads。 It encourages kids to be active and spend time outside with their imaginations。 I could use this book in a classroom setting to talk about the 4 seasons, specifically summer。 I could talk about the hot weather and national holidays that take place over the break。 I could also use this book to stress the importance of playing outside and exercising。 I believe that I could create a lesson on being active over the summer break and spending time with friends and family instead of spending time in front of a screen。 。。。more

I read this for my ice cream/summer storytime this week。 I like how one section flows into the next and the emphasis on WHEN and THEN。 It's a cute concept that readers will enjoy。 However, the book is a little long and it is difficult to shorten since the pages flow into each other。 It may be difficult for some readers to sit through it。For: fans of summer。Possible red flags: some readers may find the book too long。 I read this for my ice cream/summer storytime this week。 I like how one section flows into the next and the emphasis on WHEN and THEN。 It's a cute concept that readers will enjoy。 However, the book is a little long and it is difficult to shorten since the pages flow into each other。 It may be difficult for some readers to sit through it。For: fans of summer。Possible red flags: some readers may find the book too long。 。。。more

And Then Comes Summer is a children's picture book written by Tom Brenner and illustrated by Jaime Kim, which celebrate things done during the summer months。 Today is the Summer Solstice (21 June) or the First Day of Summer, so I thought it would be apropos to read this today。 It is also the Google Doodle for the day – at least in my part of the world。Brenner's text is rather simplistic and straightforward。 Using simple language and wonderful imagery, Brenner exudes the feeling of summer from a And Then Comes Summer is a children's picture book written by Tom Brenner and illustrated by Jaime Kim, which celebrate things done during the summer months。 Today is the Summer Solstice (21 June) or the First Day of Summer, so I thought it would be apropos to read this today。 It is also the Google Doodle for the day – at least in my part of the world。Brenner's text is rather simplistic and straightforward。 Using simple language and wonderful imagery, Brenner exudes the feeling of summer from a child’s perspective extremely well。 Kim's acrylic illustrations gives a gleeful life to the children depicted the narration extremely well with a diverse set of characters。The premise of the book is rather straightforward。 An elementary school-age boy giddily greets summer’s markers of the upcoming season: the final day of lessons, a lemonade stand, neighborhood hide-and-seek, fireworks, camping, and cooling off at a lake。 He relishes summer’s free-wheeling ease alongside a swirling pack of friends。All in all, And Then Comes Summer is a wonderful children's book celebrating summer and the wonderful carefree and often nostalgic feelings that come along with it。 。。。more

A lovely book with which to usher in summer。 I love this line, “Then pump up your tires, dig out your helmets, and raise your seat。” 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

The actual sentences are a little bit awkward, broken across pages with an if/then construction。 Really like the drawings which depict a POC / mixed race family and friends in various summertime activities。

This book is about all the things that lead up to summer。 It’s written in sort of a poetic style and uses the “then and when” style。 It talks about warm weather and swimming and all the things that are perfect in the summer。I thought this book was all right。 I wasn’t wowed by the words or the illustrations but I didn’t dislike either one。 I think it might be something that I use but it’s not something that really stuck with me。I think this would be a cute book to use in a classroom near the end This book is about all the things that lead up to summer。 It’s written in sort of a poetic style and uses the “then and when” style。 It talks about warm weather and swimming and all the things that are perfect in the summer。I thought this book was all right。 I wasn’t wowed by the words or the illustrations but I didn’t dislike either one。 I think it might be something that I use but it’s not something that really stuck with me。I think this would be a cute book to use in a classroom near the end of the year。 If I was doing a unit on summer or a lesson on summer I think that it would be fun to use this book as a reference for characteristics of summer。 It could be cool to have students write down or draw things they loved about summer then read the book and see if any of them matched。 。。。more

An homage to childhood summer breaks。 Very small town and middle class activities so urban kids would have a harder time relating。
